Ceylon – The Java Killer

RedHat LogoI can’t count the number of times I’ve stressed my concerns for the future of today’s technologies. Now it appears that I’m not the only one that is worried about the direction companies such as Google & Oracle are leading us. RedHat, owner of RedHat Linux and frameworks such as Hibernate & Seam, has begun an initiative thats main focus is on the direction that Oracle is driving the Java programming language. RedHat developer Gavin King recently unveiled a project that he’s been working on for the last 2 years that is being designed as a replacement for Java. Known as “Ceylon”, the project is a completely new language that takes some of the best things about Java & C# and combines them into something even better. Although there are some worries about some of the things that Gavin has decided to implement, I for one am excited about what I’ve read so far. I think that this is a good move for the open source community and real-world business over-all. I’d love to have the opportunity to work on an undertaking like Ceylon. So, Gavin, if you’re reading this and would like some help, you should definitely get ahold of me. :-)
