About

Me in MexicoMy name is Lucus Darnell. I was born on July 10, 1981 in a little town called Chatsworth, GA. Chatsworth is in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and is known by most as redneck land; not to be confused with Disney Land. :-) There aren’t a whole lot of career choices in my area for geeks like myself. But, I have worked hard, learned my craft, and am now very successful as both a full-time employee with a local manufacturing company and as a private consultant in the internet and software industry.

As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had an interest for computers and more specifically the internet. I believe that the internet is the ultimate tool for any entrepreneur. The internet provides everything one would need to create a business, network with people world wide, and make a very good living all from the comfort of their couch.

I landed my first job at the age of 16 at a local utility company where I was brought in to teach their employees how to use Windows 95. Most of their employees had never touched a computer and the ones that had, had only used a green-screen dumb terminal. The training was scheduled for 3 months, but we managed to get everyone up to speed in only 3 weeks. By the end of the first 3 weeks, the company’s network administrator had moved on and they were in need of a new admin. So, since I was already in-house (and came at a cheap price), I was asked to fill the role until they found a more suitable candidate for the position. Little did they know, I was the best they were going to find (at least for the next year).

After a year of playing network administrator for the local utility company, I was offered a job at a real estate office as their network & web administrator making twice what I was currently making. So, I packed my things and took the offer. I worked with the real estate company for little more than 2 years where I created and maintained their very first website. Even though the web was still in it’s infancy and most people had never used the web, our website was a huge success. We were receiving inquiries about our MLS listings faster than we could keep up. However, I knew that real estate wasn’t my niche.

In 2001, I was offered a job as a software engineer with a company that designed software for dentists and orthodontists. It was exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Unfortunately, after only a few months on the job, I learned that the company I was employed with was involved in some shady practices. After only 6 months of working there, I knew that I needed to jump ship before the ship went down.

That was the turning point in my life. When I left that software company, I felt like I was ready to take on the world on my own. I started out by doing small contract work for local companies. I created and maintained several websites as well as custom office management software for various industries. I was connected with a lot of people that brought a lot of publicity for myself. Business was booming! I found myself working on 10 or more projects a day and couldn’t be happier.

I continued to do contract work  for several years. And then it happened! The recession! Fortunately I was smart enough to realize that in 2008, business began slowing down and no one wanted to continue paying top dollar for a private consultant. I was then offered a full-time job at a world renown manufacturing company as a software engineer. It was a pretty decent gig, and with the lack of contract work available, I took the offer. But, I never lost my passion for the internet.

I have continued to do private consulting jobs for a lot of companies. I am even responsible for helping several companies survive the recession. In fact, there’s one company in particular that wouldn’t have stood a chance if it wasn’t for my expertise. I helped them bring their ancient company into the new world by getting them a web presence, newer technologies for running their business, and some custom software for tracking their sales. Many of the things that I shared with them, I will also share with you on this website.
